<p style="text-align: justify;">Diverse groups are mixed in terms of gender and achievement levels. This type of grouping is maximizes potential for peer tutoring, social development and classroom management -whilst avoiding cliques which can lead to bullying, refusal to work, lack of social interaction and other classroom management issues.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">It is this particular type of grouping which has been shown through various research studies to show significant gains in academic achievement and classroom behaviour.</p>
<p><span id="more-23"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Bottom line: If you want to make your classroom run more smoothly, put your students into diverse groupings.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Generally, a diverse group will consist of a high achiever, a low achiever and two middle achievers, and it will consist of males and females. When appropriate, ethnic groups will also be equally represented. Forming and managing these groupings is not as straightforward as random groupings which we covered in a previous article so I&#8217;ve included a method you can use below to make the process a little easier for you.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The first issue you need to be cautious of when forming diverse groups is that students should not be aware that they are being grouped according to ability. That means we have to be a bit sneaky when forming the groups.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The method I&#8217;m going to present here is very &#8216;low-tech&#8217; but I&#8217;m also going to tell you how you can get a nifty tool to do the job for you.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Low tech method for forming diverse groups: &#8216;PAIRS&#8217;</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">This method is most popular with students because they have some control over whom they choose to group with. The downside is that you can&#8217;t use it with all groups. If there is a broad range of abilities in the class and pupils are conscious of this fact, this grouping won&#8217;t work so well.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Start by using your class list to split the group into four clear groups. Put the high-ability students in one corner of the room, the low-ability students in another corner and then split the medium-ability students into two groups, putting one group in each of the other two corners of the room.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Next, ask the students from the high corner to find a partner from ONE of the medium corners. Get students to raise one hand in the air until they find a partner, and to put their hand down when they have done so. That way they can immediately see who is available.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ask the low corner students to find a partner from the other medium corner in the same way as above.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The low/medium paired students should now stand on one side of the room facing the high/medium pairs. All that&#8217;s needed now is for each pair to pair up again with a pair from the opposite side of the room.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">This gives groups of four, each with two medium ability students, one high ability and one low ability.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">You&#8217;ll find that if left to their own devices, the students will invariably pick pairs of their own sex. Diverse groups should have an equal number of boys and girls so you need to stipulate that partners of a different sex must be picked during the first pairing, and pairs of a different sex must be picked in the second pairing.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Once the teams have been formed make a note of the team members for each group so that in later sessions you can have them form new teams with different members to those they are currently with.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Simple?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Well this makes it even simpler&#8230;</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">We&#8217;ve had a fantastic little piece of software created called &#8216;Team Maker&#8217; which you can use in your classroom whenever you want to group your students automatically according to gender and ability level.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">It takes all the fuss and trouble out of doing so and even provides print-outs for your students giving a record of previous groups &#8211; if you need to know who has worked with who in the past, it&#8217;s covered. If you find a grouping that works well and you want to save it, that&#8217;s covered too.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">All in all this is a very handy tool and it&#8217;s currently available as a special introductory offer for a very, very low price.</p>

The color and contrast on the iPad is really amazing. The iPad&#8217;s one Achilles&#8217; heel is that in direct sunlight you will see a ton of reflection on the screen, and the screen which is back lit get hard to see. This is most notice able when videos with dark scenes.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Eye strain</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The has been a lot of discussion about whether or not the iPad causes eye strain. Based on my own experience and the experiences of others who have tried the iPad, this is really a hit or miss thing. I do not get any eye strain from using the iPad even after spending an hour reading an eBook. However, if you plan on making the iPad your next eBook reader, I would advise you to go test out an iPad at the Apple store first.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Media Consumption</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Media consumption was supposed to be the one thing that the iPad excelled at, and it does.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">iBooks: iBooks is Apple&#8217;s eReader that can be downloaded free on the iPad. It comes with a free sample of Winnie the Pooh. iBooks gives the readers a lot of options such as changing the text size or the brightness of the screen. iBooks does not have a huge selections of books yet, but it offers books in full color and the touch screen ui makes it fun to read.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Kindle: Amazon has made a dedicated app on for the iPad which always Amazon customers to access their eBooks or buy more from the Amazon store. The Kindle has about 340,000 more eBooks than Apple&#8217;s own iBooks. You can now watch videos that are embedded in the eBooks.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Comics: I think that comics where made to be viewed on a tablet like device. The beautiful display of the iPad combined with the interactive touch screen makes reading a comic on the iPad almost more enjoyable than holding a physical copy in your hands. Marvel and DC Comics both have dedicated apps for the iPad where you can buy new releases. Japanese manga are slowly making their way to the iPad for those of you who are fans of manga.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Magazines: So far the magazines that have been released on the iPad have enjoyed huge success. Big names such as Time Magazine, GQ, and Wired have all made dictated apps for the iPad where you can download the latest edition. The magazine companies are really excited about the opportunities the iPad brings and are still experimenting with how they should deliver their content to their subscribers. The eMagazines still have a way to go with things such as ui and pricing, but you can expect them to get better with time.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Newspapers: The iPad is an ideal product for reading the latest news in the morning at the breakfast table or on a train on your way to work. USA Today, BBC, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, and many more have already made their content assessable on the iPad.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Video</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The iPad is an excellent device for looking at video&#8217;s. There are many options of where you can get videos from. Off course you have iTunes which has a huge selection of videos that you can buy and upload to your iPad. With a paid subscription you can also access Netflix on your iPad and stream movies and shows. For you quick videos you can always head over to YouTube and watch movie trails or a funny clip.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Music</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The way you access the music is a little different from the iPhone, but it is still simple and easy. Apple has simple merged its iPod functions into iPad. One of the strong points of the iPad is that you can create your playlist directly on the iPad without having to use iTunes.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Keyboard</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The iPad keyboard is much bigger than the iPhone or iPod Touch virtual keyboards, and the extra room makes it a breeze to type on. Don&#8217;t expect to be able to bang out a 10 page paper (although I&#8217;ve heard that it has been done) but for quick typing the iPad will get the job done.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Gaming</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The gaming on the iPad is not for extreme gamers, but more so for the casual one. In fact, I&#8217;ve heard of dozens of people who haven&#8217;t played games in years finding a couple that they really enjoy on the iPad. The iPad offers all of the classic board games such as chess and scrabble and you can even play multiplayer. Then there are games that were designed specifically for the iPad. These games are clever, challenging, addictive, and loads of fun. And did I mention cheap? Most games are free and none get more expensive then about $5.00</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Would you believe that your life style could cause you to get cancer? Eighteen years ago, before I got cancer, I believed what modern medicine said about how you get cancer. At that time they said it was genetic, that your ancestors passed down the disease to you. I believed what they said, they were the scientists with all the answers. Then I got cancer of the prostate and sure enough it runs on the men&#8217;s side of my family. Luckily I made a very wise decision. I decided to use Thompsonian Naturopathic Medicine to cure my cancer. That meant that I was not going to use modern medicine, I was going to use natural healing techniques only.</p>
<p><span id="more-13"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The naturopathic doctor I worked with said that &#8220;yes I had a genetic predisposition to get prostate cancer.&#8221; Than he gave me a thumbnail sketch of how cancer gets started. We all have genetic weaknesses some weaker than others. Visualize the organs of your body like a chain. Then see that chain pulled by your life style. If your life style is poor enough you will find the weakest link, and the others will also be affected.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Well I discovered that mine were weaknesses in my prostate, lungs, low back, right hip, right knee and liver. Those are my main weak genetic links. When I look back at those years before I contracted the cancer, those were the areas where I was suffering. My lungs were always giving me problems, I had low back pain constantly, my right hip and knee were a problem, and I had a lot of severe pain between the shoulder blades (a symptom of gall bladder, liver problems).</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The naturopath told me that if I changed my life style enough, these problems would disappear along with the cancer.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I still had a hard time believing that my life style had anything to do with the cancer. Here is why. I lived the typical American life style. I was moderate in my habits. I never did anything in excess. I did eat white bread; used sugar moderately, drank coffee once a day, and ate some meat. I ate what I thought were many fruits and vegetables and I took vitamin supplements. I ate fast food maybe once or twice a week. I was in very good physical shape. At that time, I held a second-degree black belt in karate and I practiced daily. I was on no medications and I had never suffered from a major disease. Actually, I believe I was above average in my health habits.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Never the less, I trusted the naturopath and so I decided to do exactly what he said would cure the cancer.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">This doctor then told me what I must do, &#8220;you must stop doing everything you are doing with your diet and lifestyle and do just the opposite&#8221;. So I stopped eating meat and ate vegetables, stopped eating refined white bread and ate 100 percent whole wheat, I stopped eating white rice and ate brown etc. I did something I had never done; I started cleansing and detoxing and when I did I stopped eating solid food and I juice fasted with herbs.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I extended this to other areas of my life. I looked at my whole life and began to go in the opposite direction. I stopped working for money and started working at a career I loved, to earn a living. I avoided or broke off relationships with negative people and situations. I established a direct relationship with God.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Well, to my surprise the cancer disappeared and so did the other problems, just as the naturopathic doctor said they would. I never went back to the old life style and I am now happier and healthier than I have ever been in my life and I have not drawn a sick breath in the last eighteen years.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Look at your life, are you willing to exchange your life for your bad habits? Are you so loyal to garbage foods that you would die rather than change? Since I became a Thompsonian Naturopath I have seen people die rather than change their life style. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;">The word “hypoallergenic&#8221; is a term that probably most of us have run across. It is used in advertising and placed on product labels of shampoos, moisturizers, make-up, and even jewelry. Most people think it means that a product that is hypoallergenic won&#8217;t react with their allergies. But is this really what it means?</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Cosmetics advertisers first used the word in the 60&#8242;s. It comes from the Greek prefix hypo, which translates to below or less. So the word translates to “less allergens&#8221;. Since it&#8217;s inception it has been widely adopted and used by advertisers, manufacturers, and marketers to sell products that claim to be gentler on the skin than other products similar to it. But is this really true?</p>
<p><span id="more-10"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The American Food and Drug Administration has stated, “ Hypoallergenic cosmetics are products that manufacturers claim produce fewer allergic reactions than other cosmetic products. Consumers with hypersensitive skin, and even those with &#8220;normal&#8221; skin, may be led to believe that these products will be gentler to their skin than non-hypoallergenic cosmetics. There are no Federal standards or definitions that govern the use of the term &#8220;hypoallergenic.&#8221; The term means whatever a particular company wants it to mean. Manufacturers of cosmetics labeled as hypoallergenic are not required to submit substantiation of their hypoallergenicity claims to FDA. The term &#8220;hypoallergenic&#8221; may have considerable market value in promoting cosmetic products to consumers on a retail basis, but dermatologists say it has very little meaning.&#8221;</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The FDA attempted to put regulations on products that claimed to be hypoallergenic in 1974. It stated that a product could be labeled hypoallergenic only if studies were conducted on human subjects and it showed a significantly lower reaction to allergies than products not making the claim. It then said the companies had to conduct these tests on their own and (most importantly) at their own expense. This of course caused major problems and companies immediately began lawsuits against the decision, claiming that the tests “would pose an undue economic burden on them.&#8221; The two biggest challengers of this attempt at regulation were Almay and Clinique, two manufacturers of “hypoallergenic&#8221; cosmetics.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The FDA tried again to regulate the use of the word on June 6, 1975 by still requiring companies to do scientific studies but the procedures for the tests were changed to reduce the cost to the manufacturers. This still didn&#8217;t sit well with the companies who apparently wanted no regulations on what they were producing. Cosmetic companies challenged the FDA decision in the U.S. Court of Appeals, which ruled that the regulation was invalid. The court said the FDA&#8217;s definition of “hypoallergenic&#8221; was unfair because a lack of evidence that consumers perceived the term in the way it is described by the organization. The result? Manufacturers can continue to advertise and label their products “hypoallergenic&#8221; without any kind of regulation or standard set forth by the government. Consumers have no assurance that a product labeled “hypoallergenic&#8221; is any less reactive than any other product. Theoretically, a company could put out a product that is “hypoallergenic&#8221; that is full of toxins and allergens.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The one small victory that the FDA seems to have had is that at least now manufacturers are now required to put the ingredients on the labels of the products so that consumers can avoid substances that they know they are allergic to or have had problems with in the past. As consumers, we must be aware of ingredients in the products we use because apparently the companies who make them aren&#8217;t very concerned about our health over their profit margins. There is no doubt that some products out there that claim to be hypoallergenic actually are, but if you are a smart consumer and concerned for you and your family&#8217;s health, you&#8217;ll do the research yourself and not rely on these companies claims. Hypoallergenic? More like hypohonest.</p>

Going to the gym or simply doing a jumping-jack at home does not really create a big difference as long as it is a regular habit. Routine exercise will not only make you look young but will actually make you stay young by reducing the risks for acquiring bone diseases and improving your circulation.</p>

Take time to crack a joke and laugh out loud. The most effective way to defy age is to eliminate stressors around you. It&#8217;s not the way you dress nor the way you wear make-up, it&#8217;s how you manage your mood. Throw up a smile and keep them guessing your age.</p>

Alcohol is another thing that causes damage to your cells by inflaming them. On the other hand, water is the single most replenishing substance available to all. Water does not only quench your thirst but directly restructure your cells and keep you active.</p>

As much as you need air, your cells require oxygen to keep them alive. The more you smoke, the lesser the oxygen you get. As a consequence, the body&#8217;s primary layer is damaged making you look two times your actual age.</p>
